Ahead of the UK-hosted Illicit Finance Summit in June 2026, the Orpington Circle will convene a timely panel discussion examining the global challenge of illicit finance and the steps needed to combat it. Dirty money erodes the rule of law, distorts free markets, and strengthens authoritarian networks across the world. Preventing illicit finance is therefore central to defending open societies, protecting individual liberty, and ensuring fair economic competition.

This discussion will explore key issues highlighted by the summit agenda, including transparency in property and company ownership, regulation of financial and professional services, the misuse of crypto-assets, and the importance of international cooperation in tackling corruption and recovering illicit wealth.

The panel will feature Steff Aquarone MP, Baroness Margaret Hodge, Duncan Hames (Transparency International UK), Dr Sue Hawley (Spotlight on Corruption), and Dr Maria Nizzero (UK Finance), and will be chaired by journalist Edward Lucas. Together, they will discuss how the UK and its partners can strengthen global efforts to combat illicit finance.
