For Joint membership, please provide below the name of your spouse or partner if they are already a Member, or if they are not yet a Member, please also attach their own application for membership.
Town, Country, or Overseas Membership Your main address and any work or business conducted within the limits below determines your geographical category of membership: ‘Town’ (if you live or have an alternative residence within a radius of 70 miles from Charing Cross Station, or a place of work within a radius of 20 miles from Charing Cross Station), ‘Country’ (if you don’t) and ‘Overseas’. Discounted membership rates apply to Country and Overseas Members. The appropriate option will be applied automatically for you as will any age-related discount.
Membership or Political Membership The entry requirements for these two categories are slightly different. Members can enjoy all that the NLC has to offer and may propose resolutions and vote at AGMs. Political Members are exactly the same, but have a guaranteed majority of voting places on the Members’ Council, which represents the whole membership; and at AGMs they have additional voting rights on matters relating to Political membership. Political Member applicants are required to make a declaration in relation to their Liberal politics.
is open to any eligible candidate who can confirm that: “I will not use the NLC nor my membership for political activities contrary to Liberalism and in the event of my being elected I agree to observe the Rules, Regulations and Standing Orders of the Club as amended from time to time”.
We expect applicants to answer all the questions on this form honestly and accurately. The NLC reserves the right to suspend or terminate your membership if it transpires that you provided inaccurate information as part of the application.
I certify that the statements made in this application are true to the best of my knowledge. I declare that I will not use the NLC nor my membership for political activities adverse to Liberalism or the ethos of the NLC and in the event of my being elected, I agree to observe the Rules, Regulations and Standing Orders of the NLC, as amended from time to time. I confirm I have read and understood the terms and conditions of this application and note that all of the Rules, Regulations and Standing Orders as amended, are available on the NLC website.
If this is an application for Political membership, I confirm that the applicant is a Liberal in politics. As Proposer, I confirm I will introduce the applicant to the customs and ethos of the NLC. OR (in the case of a proposal by a Member of the NLC who has been asked to interview a prospective applicant) I have interviewed the applicant for membership, introduced them to the NLC and explained our customs and ethos. I am satisfied that the applicant is suitable for membership, and in the case of an application for Political membership, I am reasonably satisfied that the applicant is a Liberal in politics.
In renewing your membership on 1st January each year, you agree to pay your subscription in full, through to the end of the calendar year.
The subscription is payable annually in advance, although if you pay by direct debit, you may opt to pay in half-yearly, quarterly or monthly instalments. In the year of election, you will pay a pro-rata annual subscription from the date on which elected.
All notices of withdrawal or resignation must be submitted to the Membership Secretary in writing by 30th November for the following year. If such notice is not submitted by 30th November, Members shall be liable for their full subscription for the following year irrespective of whether such subscription is usually paid by instalments.
