The Orpington Circle usually meets on the third Tuesday evening of the month in the Lounge for a series of ‘Conversations’ with Liberal Democrat MPs around key current challenges. A talk by the MP is followed by time for Q&A and general discussion.
The guest speaker on Tuesday March 18 will be Zoe Franklin, MP for Guildford and member of the House of Commons Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport.

The creative industries and arts in Britain in general are world leaders and major income generators, but suffer from lack of governmental recognition and unintended consequences from Brexit. CMS is a particularly appropriate Committee for Zoe as she studied Music at Surrey University in Guildford and cares about music bringing people together in their communities. (She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Music.)

Zoe is also a former Borough Councillor (2008-2015) in Guildford, where she lives, so has experience around housing problems, special educational needs and the impact of water pollution on local residents. These are all challenges for Zoe’s constituency, as across many other constituencies centred around an expanding and vibrant urban centre, but still mainly rural.

Tickets are £8 for NLC Members; £10 for non-NLC Members and include a beverage of your choice. There will also be a Cash Bar. Guests can sign up through the NLC Guest Portal guest registration process.
