States of Being: Storytelling through Liberal Figurative Art is a curated exhibition bringing together contemporary figurative artists Amber Lavinia (NLC Young Member), James Lang, and Fitzroy Scofield. Through storytelling in figurative painting, the artists explore the figure as a site of narrative, examining identity, transformation, and lived experience.

Fitzroy Scofield’s work engages with political structures and critique, Amber Lavinia’s practice reflects on human rights, womanhood, and transition, while James Lang’s paintings draw on religious and spiritual themes. Together, their works form a dialogue about how individuals exist within and respond to systems of power, belief, and culture.

Framed within a human-centred understanding of liberalism, the exhibition reflects on freedom of expression, individual perspective, and the role of storytelling in shaping meaning.

The evening will include a cash bar reception, followed by a discussion with the artists.
